The Rock porte le Sharpshooter (Prise de Soumission créée par Bret Hart) sur Mankind, et avant que ce dernier n'abandonne, Shane McMahon (le fils de Vince McMahon), arbitre spécial pour l'occasion, fait sonner la cloche, comme si Mankind avait abandonné. Il donne ainsi la victoire et le titre WWF au Rock !!! Cette fin de match est évidemment une allusion au "Montreal" Screwjob qui avait eu lieu pile poil 1 an avant, durant les Survivor Series 1997. La fin est exactement la même que celle de l'année précédente (le "Screwjob" lors du match entre Shawn Michaels et Bret Hart), sauf que cette fois, cela fait bien parti du scénario scripté par la WWF.
