Tatsumi Fujinami avait gagné le NWA Championship lors du précédent PPV, mais la ceinture de champion (la Big Gold Belt, qui représente à ce moment-là les titres WCW et NWA) était toujours détenue par Ric Flair (la Big Gold Belt appartenant à la WCW). Ce match permet donc à Ric Flair de redevenir NWA Champion, et donc d'avoir de nouveau les 2 titres (WCW & NWA) avec une seule ceinture. Tatsumi Fujinami conserve le IWGP Championship, qui n'était pas en jeu lors de ce match.
